Childhood and Youth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Louisa was born in 1767, the daughter of the 4th Earl of Bristol. She grew up in a large family with three brothers and two sisters. At the age of 10, Louisa travelled to Italy with her family but fell ill with malaria. Because of this, her family had to prolong their stay and only returned to England in 1779.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon their return, her father succeeded to the title of Earl of Bristol, and she became Lady Louisa Hervey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1782, Louisa’s parents separated, and she went to live with her mother at Ickworth. It should be noted that after the separation, she spent most of her time with her mother and had little contact with her peers. During this period, her mother instilled in her strong moral and religious principles. In 1785, the family moved to London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marriage and Later Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When Louisa was 26, she met Robert Jenkinson, then a Member of Parliament and the son of Lord Hawkesbury. The pair formed a relationship and decided to marry. Louisa’s father approved of the match and even promised a dowry of \u00a310,000. Robert’s father, however, was against his 24-year-old son marrying so young, believing he should remain a bachelor until he was at least 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, the couple eventually married in 1795. Louisa was 28, and Robert was 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After their marriage, Robert held various political posts. In 1801, he joined the Cabinet and remained a Member of Parliament until 1803, when he was elevated to the House of Lords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1808, Robert became the 2nd Earl of Liverpool, and Louisa, consequently, became the Countess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four years later, Robert Jenkinson was appointed Prime Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Politician’s Wife<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is worth noting that Louisa always attended various events in support of her husband. She took a keen interest in his political career and sometimes even assisted him by copying out confidential documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countess Louisa was also involved in charitable work, helping the poor and those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1809, the couple moved to Fife House in Whitehall. They also enjoyed spending time at their country home, Coombe House. There, the Countess hosted distinguished guests, including the King in 1805 and Tsar Alexander I of Russia in 1814.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louisa suffered from poor health and tired easily from official functions and entertainment. She often experienced headaches and colds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1816, the Countess became seriously ill. Although she later recovered somewhat, her health never fully returned, and she passed away in 1821. The Countess was buried in the Jenkinson family vault at St Mary’s Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robert was devastated by the death of his beloved wife. However, the following year, he married one of her friends. Robert himself later retired from political life due to ill health. He died in 1828 and was buried beside Louisa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should also be noted that a memorial to Lady Louisa is located in All Saints’ Church, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louisa Theodosia Jenkinson was a well-known figure not just in Liverpool but across the country. Despite her high status, she was dedicated to helping the poor and disadvantaged, often visiting orphans and widows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
