Born for the Catwalk
Amy Jackson was born in Douglas, Isle of Man, in 1992. When she was two years old, her family moved to Liverpool. She attended St Edward’s College.
Jackson competed in and won the Miss Teen Liverpool contest. She also became Miss Teen Great Britain and, in 2009, won the title of Miss Teen World. Following this victory, Amy secured a modelling contract in the United States.
Her professional modelling career began with the agency Boss Model Management. A year later, Amy won the Miss Liverpool title and finished as the first runner-up in the Miss England pageant in 2010.

Acting Career
Following her success in beauty pageants, Amy Jackson was noticed by Indian film producers. She was invited to audition for the film Madrasapattinam and was offered the lead role, despite having no prior acting experience. Although it was a challenging start, the model received positive reviews for her performance.
In 2011, director Gautham Vasudev Menon offered Amy the lead female role opposite Prateik Babbar in the film Ekk Deewana Tha. Jackson once again delivered a well-received performance.
In 2012, the actress took on a supporting role in the film Thaandavam.

It’s worth noting that during this period, the model and actress was ranked number one on the ‘Most Desirable Women of 2014’ list by The Times of India, Chennai Edition.
Subsequently, Jackson starred in the films Singh Is Bliing, Thanga Magan, Gethu, and Theri.
In 2017, it was announced that Jackson had landed her first Hollywood role in the CW superhero drama series Supergirl.

A Brief History of Beauty Pageants
It’s clear that beauty pageants helped Amy Jackson to build her acting career. If she hadn’t achieved success in these competitions, it’s unlikely she would have been noticed.
But have you ever wondered when beauty pageants first appeared? Historians note that similar events existed even in ancient times. In Ancient Greece, for example, each city would choose its most beautiful woman, who would then be celebrated by poets and artists. Is that not a beauty contest?
The first modern-era beauty contest took place in 1839 in Scotland, during a re-enactment of a medieval jousting tournament. For the first time, a ‘Queen of Beauty’ was chosen from among several young women—the title went to Georgiana Seymour, Duchess of Somerset.
Then, in 1888, the first international contest was held in Spa, Belgium, with 21 contestants from across Europe. The contestants were judged on their talents rather than just their appearance.
After the First World War, there was a global desire to return to normality, leading to the growth of the entertainment and beauty industries. This led to the first official ‘Miss America’ pageant in 1921. However, at the time, there was one condition: only ‘white girls’ could participate. This rule was abolished in 1950, and in the 1980s, the first black contestant, Vanessa Williams, won the Miss America title.
During the 1920s, beauty pageants became increasingly popular and were held not only in the United States but in other countries too.
In 1951, the first Miss World pageant in London included a bikini round, which caused criticism from the public and the church. It wasn’t until the 1980s that swimwear rounds became a regular feature again.
It should be noted that contestants must meet a number of requirements: they must be unmarried, have no children, have no bad habits, and must not have participated in any dubious projects. However, the discerning judges evaluate not only outer but also inner beauty. After the contest, the winner becomes a goodwill ambassador and is expected to engage in charity and volunteer projects.
