Loved sport from childhood
The future athlete was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1991. When she was seven, she moved with her family to Alnwick, where she began running. She ran 1500 metres alongside an Olympic finalist.
She started playing football thanks to her brother. She loved to “kick a ball around” with her older brother and his friends. However, Lucy also played tennis as a child and even played the saxophone. Incidentally, her favourite subjects at school were Maths and PE.
Despite her many hobbies, Lucy Bronze dedicated more time to football. She even joined the town’s junior team, where she was the only girl. When Lucy was 12, she had to leave the team because, at that time, girls couldn’t play with boys. Bronze continued her passion for football and began to develop her sporting career.

Contract with Liverpool FC
Lucy Bronze isn’t from our local area, but she played for our women’s football club, Liverpool, for several years.
Her contract with the football club was signed in November 2012. As a result, Lucy won two English championships with Liverpool (2013, 2014).
In the 2013 season, the footballer sustained a knee injury, so she didn’t finish the match against Everton. In the 2013 season, Lucy Bronze played 19 matches, scoring one goal. In 2014, she played 23 matches and scored two goals. While at Liverpool in 2014, Lucy received the PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year award. She was also twice named in the Women’s Super League Team of the Year in 2013-2014.
Bronze decided not to extend her contract with Liverpool FC, choosing instead to develop her career with another team. The footballer stated that she was grateful to her teammates and the Liverpool staff for two incredible seasons.
It’s worth noting that Lucy is considered a right-back, but according to experts, she can play almost anywhere in defence. She is characterised as a fast, hardworking, and resilient athlete. And as a defender, Lucy scores quite a few goals. Bronze is also good at heading the ball and can adapt to any team’s tactics.
